Property Showcase: Redding SSA

Situated in the city of Redding, this new SSA building features insulated concrete panel construction and other energy efficient construction technologies. Designed by an award winning local architect and completed in September, 2010, this 20,000 square foot building is both an SSA field office and a location for Office of Disability and Adjudication Review (ODAR). The developers took advantage of a nearby industrial factory that produced custom concrete panels (primarily for wine warehousing and other cold storage needs) that consist of a 12 inch thick panel that marries two four inch concrete panels with a 4 inch foam panel providing significant insulation qualities over standard site built wall systems. Additional energy saving technologies include an R35 foam roof and a roof mounted “ice bear” thermal storage system that produces ice at night when power rates are low and the ice is used for cooling the building during the day. This effort was implemented in a joint project with Redding Electric Utility in an effort to reduce peak power requirements on their grid.
On the inside, the design included high ceilings and thoughtful planning of window size and location to capture natural light in addition to advanced lighting systems that utilized occupancy sensors and remote programming.

The site for this project is in an office park next to the Sacramento River and was chosen to provide access to public transportation and convenience for the client base in the Redding area.
